We have been working with bands for 20 plus yrs. We offer Entertainment Services for Talent and the buyers of Talent! Ok, one note here, we are not the Big Time nonsense that I just read about we are what we say we are. Like the add says We are musicians, therefore We do the promotion that is why we are what we say we are. The object with The Rock Hard Music Group is to bring you "Solid" music(hence the play on words Rock Hard)to any venue, any style. Like is says, "It is all about the...............MUSIC" Should it be anything else but that. Money follows when you have the drive and the right direction and people putting you in the right direction. I do not want to be negative with this other organization, but to defend myself and the company I work for, we are what we say we are, no miscommunication, no take all your money, etc. Give us a shout and a listen too, You won't be disappointed.
I would love to have the opportunity to meet with you to discuss the possibility of us working with you in the near future.

    Lars - June 24, 2008 1:53 PM

So here's the advice to any musician in the NYC area... you should try and avoid the Big Time Entertainment Syracuse group because after the concert we've had out there we can only say that it's a well masked money project that will take little consideration for you the artist, and ultimately just rob you of your time and income.
We feel tricked into believing that it was a company well worth the time on account of the extensive e-mailing process and the paperwork to deal with it all along with promises of the show in Syracuse being big and beneficial to us as a group.
Triple strike for Big Time on all accounts!!!
Our first complaint is the overall work devision of this project. We were asked to sell 30 tickets... something which threw us off-guard simply because we've never been given ticket sale quotas. We were "given" access to "Artist resources"
which turned out to be somewhat of a slap in the face with a bunch of Duhs regarding self promotion which we've been practicing from day one of self-promotion. Turns out we must have been doing all of our promotion ourselves because Big Time certainly seemed to rely on our income and our pull with our fan base. Even after explaining to them that this was somewhat of a problematic event since it would have been impossible for us to drive to Syracuse from Ithaca twice for promotions first and the show second, you think they might have done some advertising themselves seeing how it would have helped them cover their end of costs as well.
Which of course brings us to part two of production failure. We sold 30 tickets, as far as we can tell from peeking at their sheets, we're the only group who managed to do so and in the end many of our devoted fans couldn't even make the show because of the long distance drive. So... we printed tickets (Big Time only sent us the template)[printing and distribution cost$$ on us], we advertised in our and surrounding surrounding area and hyped up the show in Syracuse via our local shows [gas$$, printing cost$$ for fliers, strain on our credibility for advocating this nonsense... on us!]. In addition to all that ...we then bring in $240 for each ticket WE sold at $8 along with a couple of $10 tickets sold at the door. The return for all this effort ended up being ...let's re-cap: advertising costs in gas, printing, promotions, and credibility, gas cost for our trip to Syracuse, $240 + door money for tickets taken by "Big Time" and inspiring Odin gets paid: $65.00!!! (a little over the trip price of a to-and-from between Ithaca and Syracuse). Big Time kept the rest... for what? well... that's problem three!
The venue looked promising... though a lot smaller and less seating capacity than any venue we've ever played! At least the stage looked decent. I've been lead to believe the the good people of Manhattan's bar were given a booking fee from Big Time though we paid for all of our Drinks as 21 year-old Legals with no discounts [This is the only venue where we received no hospitality benefits for playing EVER!!!] Some additional event sponsorship apparently went to a "sound-guy" who first of all seemed to be in a hurry to get out of the place and second of all seemed to be complaining about Not being paid for the event at the beginning and I made sure he knew that OUR ticket sales at least, should cover his efforts... and they were POOR! I mean POOR, poor, PoOr... any which way you can spell it for emphasis... this guy just didn't know what he was doing... I only wish I remembered his name over his utterly unmemorable performance as a sound-guy so I could warn the music community of his unprofessional ism. I thought it would motivate him to know that he should be making his cut... It could however only get better from where He was at during the show so I can only assume that not being paid would put him into negative space as far as talent goes.
We could have brought in our own equipment... gotten paid for managing the sound for this disaster... and everyone involved would have been better off [we actually know how to do all of this! But were never asked if we would want to take care of our own, only that there would be a professional sound-guy... ... ... wow]
We played with two groups... unknown to us [five were supposed to show]. None of the two acts seemed to be groups you'd expect to play at a sponsored event and of course it was our mistake to head-line because the few Syracuse fans we did pull for the event left before we started on account of a shitty cover band. A huge lack of professional courtesy in both bands btw; we sat through some of the truly terrible bar music of theirs to show our respect, and both groups left with their fans before we played a single song. The first group in fact... left before the second group sang a single song... Shame on you Syracuse! This is why you can't network with music groups in NY... nobody cares about their community of field colleagues. If I was running a legitimate production team and put this event together I wouldn't have paid a single person who walked out on this event... let alone pay them as they're walking out the door.
So... what did we pay for?!?! To play for our Ithaca fans in Syracuse on a Thursday when we could have played at a bigger, nicer, better venue for FREE in Ithaca on the weekend with a large pull and an actual pay-out? JOKE'S ON US!
I am sorry for anybody who had to drag themselves out for this one. We gave it our all and our performance was spot on as always so at least those who showed got a great acoustic set as we screamed over the bad setting of that inept sound guy... added bonus: we had no voice after that show for the sake of our fans hearing our voices. I just hope that nobody has to endure this kind of treatment from a scam company because that's the kind of thing we'd like to warn the music community of and that's the depiction of work ethics BIG TIME SYRACUSE ENTERTAINMENT gave us... SCAM! Check out what you're dealing with at: http://www.bigtimeentertainment.net/

    Happy Fathers Day!

Who's your daddy? Its fathers day weekend and what better way to celebrate the role of that special man in your life, than to set it out with us at Soul Kitchen Sundays. Its also the birthday of our resident DJ, DJ GEDA, so you know all the ladies will be in full attendance to help him do the damn thang right.

We would definitely like to thank everybody who came out last weekend for Soul Kitchen Sundays at Downtown Manhattans. Kent Fraizers Intimate Connection had the crowd jumping as his new lead singer Jamel wooed all the ladies in attendance with that smooth voice of his.

This Sunday we will have the smooth but funky sounds of Nat Browns Brownskin featuring Gary Carter. This group is absolutely a crowd favorite that are not only good, but are fun to see perform. We are very excited to have them once again. For those of you who still don't know, Soul Kitchen Sundays is where we will be featuring local r&b, funk and jazz bands every sunday from 8-11pm.

We are in pursuit of creating the ulitmate chill spot. Where you can sit back with some friends or that special someone and enjoy some smoking grooves. Our kitchen will be open again soon cooking 100 flavors of wings as well as other delicious items.

Of course we still have Industry night ( calling all bar employees ) drink specials, the best prices anywhere ($6.00 Martinis & Cosmos, $3.25 Coronas, and $3 Wells). Keeping the mood right from 11-until, will be DJ Geda spinning the hip hop classics as well as the latest party jams. Dress to impress, mature 21 and over always! Its also the NBA Playoffs so our t.v's will be locked into all the games. For those of you who missed the spades sign up last week its not to late. If your interested in playing we need you to show up this Sunday at 5:30pm for prelimenary rounds and rules overview. Its a two man team tourney so bring your partner.

This is not your mamma's kitchen! Its Soul Kitchen. So we understand that Soul Kitchen is not for everybody. Only for those who love live music, great conversation, who can handle partying with a mature professional crowd. Come and let us funk you up!

I hope to see everybody there. To see pictures from past events go to http://www.myspace.com/soul_kitchen_sundays

    Hey Everybody,

I would love to thank everybody for continuing to support us for Soul Kitchen Sundays at Downtown Manhattans because Nate Brown Brownskin was hot definitely! The place was definitely packed. We had a suprised performance by miss Danielle from The Dannibelle who joined in to give us a sampling of her fabulous voice. They definitely are one of the better groups in the Syracuse area so if you missed them, don't worry you will have another chance to see them the third Sunday this month.

    BigTime Entertainment - May 8, 2008 5:13 PM

The bands seek out BigTime Entertainment's help get them more fans. The way it works is that the bands contact BigTime Entertainment and BigTime arranges a show with about 6 other bands. Each band is required to sell atleast 30 tickets, which often does not happen because it's not always easy to sell that many tickets. But the point is, that the more tickets each band sells, the more fans come. By having a show with other bands who bring in their own fans, you end up with a large audience which you then could potentially end up with new fands. Also, the bands are not always the same type of genre that way the fans are exposed to a variety of music that by coming to the show and waiting for their band they came to see play, they are forced to listen to other music which the may end up realizing that they have a taste for. And as far as payment goes, each band does get paid to play. The pay is primarily based on ticket sales, presale and at the door. The more tickets the band sells, the more money they will receive. A good chunk of the money collected at these shows goes towards the venue. BigTime Entertainment holds shows at Downtown Manhattan's and Funk n' Waffles. Everytime a show is held BigTime has to pay the venue. If you would like more information on BigTime Entertainment send an email to alwitz@syr.edu or visit the website at Bigtimeentertainment.net. Also, a representative will be at tonight's show at Downtown Manhattan's which starts at 6:30 p.m. Hope this helped.

    Jazz lover - May 4, 2008 1:01 AM

I would love to hear jazz piano, the good stuff like "Misty," "Take the A train, " or "Body and Soul."

    - April 21, 2008 10:20 AM

yes. I agree that this is a scam. As a musician the only way that I pay a management company is if THEY are doing promotion and selling tickets. You don't pay someone so that you you can work for them.

    The Blueprint_Management - April 19, 2008 5:11 AM

Does anyone know anything about these "Bigtime syracuse" scam shows goin on? I mean I thought in the past that musicians used to GET paid to showcase their hard work and talent...now they run 5-6 bands on an otherwise dead thursday and each band is "responsible for selling tickets"....aka, give them $240 the night of or they lose their spot to play...

Only tickets Im seein are a couple one way tickets to Scamtown, USA.

If anyone has any information on this, please feel free to reply

    Wil Mathis - April 2, 2008 6:02 PM

To my peeps, I hope all is well.

The weather is finally starting to get warm outside but its always been hot inside Soul Kitchen Sundays at Downtown Manhattans! I truly have felt blessed about how things have truly taking off with the Soul Kitchen movement for real live soul music. I am fan first, and I am glad to see that there are so many other fans of this music who continue to support these bands each and every Sunday.

This Sunday we will be cooking up smooth R&B sounds with the Group The Dannibelle. This will be there first time performing with us on Soul Kitchen Sundays but I am telling you, this band is tight! Wait till you hear the lead singers voice. Our kitchen will be opening back up soon cooking 100 flavors of wings as well as other delicious items.

Of course we still have the Industry night ( calling all bar employees ) drink specials, the best prices anywhere ($6.00 Martinis & Cosmos, $3 Coronas, and $3 Wells).
