RAVENS BALLROOM
Ravens Ballroom is the brainchild of Matthew Ravens. Joined by fellow Salon of Refuse band mates Simona and Jon Rosenbaum, Matthew Ravens has created a band that refines an already epic progressive rock performance style with a sense of harmony and chops that will carry this band’s evolution into new heights of musical artistry.
Simona is a native of Rome, Italy. She has only recently moved to the United States, but carries with her a love of her native country. She loves history, art, film, music, reading and drawing. Her passion for music began as a twelve-year-old studying bass and then classic guitar. Seeing the guitar through the eyes of a bass player is part of what makes Simona’s work stand out. Taking over bass for the band, Simona has a unique feel to her playing that captures the depth of melody that categorizes most of the Ravens Ballroom songs. Her voice is also one of the more distinguishing aspects of the band. Simona captures a haunting, ethereal quality that radiates the inner beauty of an artist who loves her work and fits well with the styles of her band mates. She has written a couple of songs for Ravens Ballroom and has collaborated with Matthew Ravens for about 8 years.
Jon Rosenbaum is the band’s drummer. He originally hails from Manhattan, and is currently living in northern New Jersey. Jon began his musical career in high school, where he played in several classic rock cover bands. He also delved into jazz-fusion and progressive rock, making him very versatile as a drummer. Rosenbaum’s ability to shift gears from minimalism to sheer chops flows well with the creative, yet challenging songs of Ravens Ballroom.
Matthew Ravens is the driving force behind the epic sound. Born and currently living in Livingston, New Jersey, Ravens began writing songs at the age of fourteen and he played in various cover and original bands. Most of his time as a musician has been spent as a songwriter/solo artist on the acoustic guitar. With Ravens Ballroom, he is the producer, primary singer and guitarist as well as being the keyboardist, bassist drummer at times. An active visual artist, Ravens has a Master of Fine Arts Degree and a love for literature, photography, graphic design, writing poetry, painting and drawing. His musical influences range from classical to rock and his tastes are evident in the depth of sound and structure both in musical quality and lyrical content. Several of the original songs recorded under Salon of Refuse have Ravens playing all instruments, vocals and producing. He writes most of the band’s lyrics as well. Ravens uses his visual art to see his music on a deeper level than most. Ravens comments-“Painting showed me what music looks like.” He takes the shadows and abstract ideas that make up his artistic views and uses them to delve deeper into the meaning of songs he creates.
Ravens Ballroom, formerly Salon of Refuse, is a 5 star band on the upward spiral to success. Their epic sound and intricate lyrics combine to captivate the listener and keep them wanting more. The blending of talent with Simona’s voice and skills as a bassist, Jon Rosenbaum’s abilities as a drummer and Matthew Ravens’ intricate lyrics, Freddy Mercury style voice, guitar and love of music, brings you a band worth watching as it shoots for the sky. |
